An overseas analysis found that Korea ranked third in the world in artificial intelligence (AI) capability, after the United States and China.
FDi Intelligence, an investment information publication under the Financial Times in the United Kingdom, said on the 18th (local time) that "AI competition is not just for the United States and China," spotlighting corporations in Korea, France, Israel, and Canada. Citing data from the global AI analysis agency "Artificial Analysis," the outlet said Korea ranked third after the United States and China.
Of the 22 leading AI models worldwide, 13 are U.S. models and six are Chinese models, while two Korean models made the list. LG AI Research's "EXAONE 4.0 32B" ranked 19th, and Upstage's "SOLAR Pro 2" ranked 20th. Among models outside the United States and China, only France's "Mistral Medium 3.1" (22nd) was additionally included.
FDi Intelligence assessed that "corporation models such as Korea's LG, France's Mistral, Israel's AI21, and Canada's Cohere are delivering results even if they are not as smart as the large language models of the United States and China." It also emphasized that when evaluating AI capability, indicators such as operating expense, output, and latency, not just raw intelligence, are important.
