LG Uplus said on the 15th that it will supply 12 FAST (Free Ad-supported Streaming TV) channels to Samsung TV Plus, the Samsung Electronics smart TV platform, through its own transmission system. The channels will be available to watch starting in September, and the lineup includes ▲JTBC ▲JTBC2 ▲JTBC4 ▲MBN ▲Korea Economy TV ▲Yonhap News TV Economy ▲Maeil Business TV ▲MTN Money Today Broadcasting ▲Carrie TV ▲The Life 2 ▲K Baduk ▲Arirang TV, which will roll out sequentially within the year.
The FAST service allows viewers to enjoy media content with advertising and without subscription fees or viewing charges on smart TVs equipped with an open OS. Unlike pay TV services such as IPTV and cable TV, or OTT, viewers can watch desired content for free with just a smart TV and an internet connection.
By transmitting FAST channels directly to LG Channels, the LG Electronics smart TV platform, and to Samsung TV Plus, LG Uplus has secured more touchpoints with viewers and is providing a differentiated viewing environment from the existing pay TV market. Samsung TV Plus offers about 3,500 channels and roughly 66,000 VOD titles for free in 30 countries worldwide, and with the FAST channels supplied by LG Uplus, it will present an even richer array of content.
In particular, LG Uplus is stably operating FAST channels through its own transmission system and has established a distribution framework that can immediately respond to real-time errors that may occur while customers are watching. This serves as a strength in providing the best viewing environment to customers.
LG Uplus plans to continuously advance its independent technical capabilities to satisfy customers, media companies that operate channels and ads, and advertising agencies alike.
