Tesla Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elon Musk said he discussed the possibility of developing an artificial intelligence (AI)-based game with Pearl Abyss subsidiary CCP Games, sending Pearl Abyss shares sharply higher intraday.
Musk said on his X (formerly Twitter) account, "I had a good conversation with the EVE Online developer and discussed the possibility of AI game collaboration," on the 9th (local time). He added, "Only AI can do this."
EVE Online is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) set in space, first introduced in 2003 by Iceland-based game company CCP Games. With high freedom and a sophisticated in-game economy design, it has a solid global base of devoted fans.
Pearl Abyss acquired 100% equity of CCP Games in 2018 for 252.4 billion won and made it a subsidiary.
After Musk mentioned the Pearl Abyss subsidiary, Pearl Abyss shares, which had been falling since the recent announcement of a delay to "Crimson Desert," jumped as much as 11.1% intraday in the morning.
Musk is known as a "game maniac," a passionate gamer who even hosts his own game streaming broadcasts. In Nov. last year, he said he would establish an AI game studio at xAI, the AI company he founded. Quoting U.S. President Donald Trump's campaign slogan, he also said he would "make games great again."
