Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, promoted the performance of the self-designed artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor chips and emphasized that the AI6 chips to be produced by Samsung Electronics in the future will be 'top-notch.'
On the 6th (local time), Musk posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying, 'Today, we completed an amazing design review with the Tesla AI5 chip design team,' and added, 'This will be an epic chip.'
He continued, 'And the upcoming AI6 could undoubtedly be the best AI chip.'
Musk also stated, 'By transitioning from parallel development of two chip architectures to one, all semiconductor talents can now focus on creating one incredible chip,' and wrote, 'If you want to participate in developing life-saving chips, join the Tesla team.'
Tesla's AI5 chip is made by Taiwanese company TSMC, while the AI6 chip is set to be produced at Samsung Electronics' Texas plant.
In response to another user asking if this meant 'the best AI chip for automobiles,' Musk replied, 'I could be wrong, but I think the AI5 will probably be the best of any kind of inference chip for models under 250 billion parameters,' and added, 'Undoubtedly, the cost performance regarding power efficiency is also the best.'
He added, 'AI6 will go far beyond this.'
On July 27, Musk revealed through X the fact of a large-scale foundry contract with Samsung Electronics, stating, 'Samsung's large new factory in Texas will be dedicated to the production of Tesla's next-generation AI6 chips. The strategic importance of this cannot be overstated.'
