KT has temporarily reduced the mobile payment limit to minimize the ongoing damage from small payment fraud.
According to the telecommunications industry on the 7th, KT announced on the 6th through a customer notice that it would implement customer protection measures related to mobile payment fraud.
Recently, incidents have occurred in Gwangmyeong City and Geumcheon District in Seoul where money has been withdrawn through mobile payments without the users' knowledge.
Victims reported to the police that money had been withdrawn from their mobile phones under the pretext of charging transportation cards at the end of last month. The amount identified by the Gwangmyeong Police Station exceeds 17 million won.
KT has temporarily reduced the payment limit for gift certificate sales in consultation with mobile payment gateway companies. Additionally, it has strengthened abnormal pattern detection to prevent further payment fraud.
Customers who detected abnormal small payment transactions in the region during the damage period will be contacted individually for consultation.
