OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, is set to launch an artificial intelligence (AI)-based recruitment platform that connects job seekers and corporations next year. A direct competition with LINKED, the world's largest business social media platform, is anticipated.
OpenAI noted through its blog that it is preparing to launch the recruitment platform "OpenAI Jobs Platform" around mid-next year. The job platform envisioned by OpenAI is a service that connects talented individuals needed by corporations and government agencies using AI.
Fidji Simo, chief executive officer of OpenAI's application sector, said, "AI will bring both benefits to humanity and disruptive changes," adding, "While OpenAI cannot eliminate this chaos, it can help more people use AI proficiently and provide more economic opportunities by connecting those in need with corporations."
According to Bloomberg News, OpenAI also announced these plans at the "AI and Education" task force meeting hosted by Melania Trump at the White House on that day.
Simo, the CEO, stated that the recruitment platform is conceptualized in a way that "applicants can prove their competencies as a certification, with AI connecting them to corporations based on that." As part of this, a certification system to verify AI proficiency will be introduced. OpenAI plans to issue AI proficiency certificates through its online education program, "OpenAI Academy," and intends to start a pilot program by the end of this year. The goal is to provide OpenAI certification to 10 million Americans by 2030.
To achieve this, OpenAI will collaborate with major corporations such as Walmart and John Deere, consulting firms like Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Accenture, recruitment platforms like Indeed, and organizations such as the Texas Chamber of Commerce and the Delaware Governor's Office. Details of the certification program are being arranged with Walmart. The certification program will initially be provided for free to about 1.6 million Walmart employees in the U.S., and it may be converted to a paid service for other corporations in the future, Bloomberg reported.
The launch of this recruitment platform is seen as part of OpenAI's diversification strategy. OpenAI is preparing to expand its business into various fields such as shopping, search, and robotics, based on ChatGPT, which is used by over 700 million people. Amid growing concerns that AI is taking away jobs worldwide, it appears that OpenAI is also stepping into providing services that consolidate job connections. Simo, the CEO, said, "While AI may threaten traditional jobs, OpenAI will nurture AI talent and connect corporations to create new opportunities."
The upcoming service is expected to create a competitive landscape with LINKED, owned by OpenAI's largest investor, Microsoft (MS). Founded by Reid Hoffman in 2003, LINKED is the world's largest business social network and recruitment platform.
