A senior executive at Elon Musk's artificial intelligence (AI) corporation xAI has recently resigned, as reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on the 3rd, citing sources familiar with the matter.
According to sources, Mike Liberatore, who was the chief financial officer (CFO) of xAI, left the company at the end of July. This came just three months after he assumed the role. Liberatore, who previously worked at Airbnb, had been deeply involved in xAI's fundraising activities and also oversaw some data center expansion projects in the Memphis area of Tennessee.
The reason for his departure has not been disclosed.
On the 7th of last month, Robert Keel, who oversaw legal affairs, resigned after one year in the position. When asked about what it felt like to work as the legal head at xAI, the xAI chatbot Grok generated an image of 'a man in a suit manically shoveling coal,' which he posted on his personal social media.
Senior attorney Raghu Rao, who was in charge of transaction-related legal matters, is also reported to have left xAI around the same time.
Igor Babushkin, who co-founded xAI with Musk in 2023, also announced on the 13th of last month that he would be leaving the company. He stated that he departed to establish an investment company, 'Babushkin Ventures,' focused on AI safety.
In July, Linda Yaccarino, former CEO of Musk's social media platform X (formerly Twitter), also resigned. Yaccarino moved to become CEO of the digital healthcare corporation 'eMed Population Health' a month later.
