Nexon's popular mobile game "Blue Archive" was subjected to a hacking attack, prompting an emergency server inspection; however, it has been confirmed that there was no leakage of user personal information or game data.
The Blue Archive management announced on the 2nd that some settings linked to the game client had been arbitrarily changed from outside, resulting in abnormal exposure of content. Consequently, an emergency inspection was conducted for about six hours starting from 10:22 p.m. on the same day.
According to the management, the Blue Archive client is structured to verify settings through a content delivery network (CDN) during execution, and this CDN is managed by an internal service separate from the game. However, indications were detected that an unidentified attacker accessed this CDN externally in a specific manner.
The management emphasized that these settings only affect the method of content exposure and that user information, such as account information, payment information, and game data, is managed in separate databases, so there is no possibility of leaks. They also added that there was no actual damage from the hacking attempt due to the re-verification process on the server.
To prevent a recurrence, Nexon is transitioning the CDN to an internal network and strengthening security procedures while reporting the matter to the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), which is conducting a related investigation.
Users who experienced inconvenience due to the emergency inspection will be compensated with in-game currency and character recruitment tickets.
