Oh Se-hoon, the mayor of Seoul, emphasized the convenient and safe use of artificial intelligence (AI) for citizens, stating that the city is also accelerating the adoption of AI.
On the 27th, Mayor Oh spoke at the 'SMARTCLOUD SHOW 2025' held at the Westin Josun Hotel in Seoul, delivering a video address. Mayor Oh said, "We are living in an era of 'AI popularization' where everyone can experience AI in their daily lives," and added, "It is rapidly changing not just industries and the economy, but our entire society and the daily lives of citizens."
Mayor Oh noted, "Seoul has also aligned with this trend by being the first local government in the country to announce an 'AI Administrative Promotion Plan' last year," and added, "We are making changes that accompany the vulnerable, integrating AI into the areas closest to citizens, such as transportation, safety, and welfare, to enhance quality of life." He continued, "In the coming year of 2026, we will establish a 'Seoul City Indigenous Large Language Model (LLM)' and will fully adopt generative AI in administrative affairs."
Mayor Oh emphasized that the ultimate goal of technological advancement is the convenience and safety of citizens. He stated, "The ultimate goal of technological advancement is clear: it is to care for each citizen's life more conveniently, more safely, and more warmly," and continued, "As a people-centered smart city, Seoul will open a future where technological advancement leads to citizens' happiness," expressing hope that the ideas discussed today would greatly contribute to the digital innovation of Korea as well as to Seoul's leap as a global smart city.
