Naver will end support for Naver Academic Search.
According to industry sources on the 27th, Naver will terminate the academic information search area starting September 25, integrating the full text of academic documents into the general search results. The academic search service, which had separately handled academic materials such as theses and research papers, will be discontinued, and related documents will be incorporated into general search results.
This decision focuses on the integration of search services, considering the popularization of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and user experience. In particular, Naver has decided to follow the trend among other big corporations, such as Google, which concentrate on providing integrated information rather than segmenting search services.
Naver explained in a notice that "while documents such as theses and research reports had been displayed separately through the academic information area, this area will be terminated to provide a better user experience." Instead, the service will transition to a more intuitive and simple format that allows users to directly verify the full text in search results.
Thus, academic documents with full texts can now be accessed through integrated search, while other general academic materials can be viewed through the Naver Academic Information service.
