The new government will establish the 'Korea AI Action Plan', which specifies the direction of artificial intelligence (AI) policies to respond to the expansion of domestically focused AI ecosystems in the United States and China.
Bae Kyung-hun, Minister of Science and ICT, said this during his congratulatory speech at the country's largest tech conference 'SMARTCLOUD SHOW 2025', held on the 27th at the Westin Josun Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul.
Minister Bae said, "The action plan will encompass detailed implementation plans from all ministries for building an AI ecosystem, including specific supply of advanced graphics processing units (GPUs), plans to attract foreign talents, enhancing AI utilization in the public sector for the national AX transformation, and establishing AI factories." He added, "We plan to establish and implement such plans under the 'National AI Strategy Committee'."
Minister Bae noted, "Recently, the government proposed the goal of becoming one of the top three countries in AI over the next five years," and added, "To achieve this, we are actively working on securing 10,000 GPUs this year, demonstrating domestic AI semiconductors, developing an independent AI foundation model, and supporting the development of physical AI to establish an independent AI ecosystem."
He also stated, "To support private sector efforts in AI technology innovation, we will expand tax credits in the AI field and strive to create an AI innovation fund and establish a national AI computing center," and emphasized, "We will continue to make efforts to enhance AI capabilities."
Minister Bae expressed hope that "today's gathering will be a meaningful time to discuss the key tasks for the future of AI and cloud as we look into how technologies like physical AI and AI agents will operate and affect the real world in the age of artificial intelligence."
Meanwhile, on this day, Minister Bae's speech was read by Song Sang-hoon, director of the ICT Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Science and ICT.
