Naver Webtoon began gradually distributing its short-form animation service "Cuts" on the Naver Webtoon app starting on the 25th, and officially launches on September 1.
"Cuts" is a user-generated content (UGC) service that allows anyone to upload and enjoy animations of less than two minutes. It was designed to reflect the trend of preference for short video content and adopted a short-form format, which is easier to produce compared to live-action or feature-length animations, increasing creative accessibility.
This service will be sequentially distributed on Android and iOS starting from today, and availability will vary depending on the device environment. From the official launch date of September 1, it will be available to everyone on the Naver Webtoon app as well as on the PC and mobile web.
In "Cuts," not only highlights from Naver Webtoon originals but also new stories from popular creators such as ▲"My Daughter is a Zombie" Lee Yun-chang ▲"Born to be an Idiot" Gaspar ▲"Gadamhangseol" Rangto will be provided in animation. In addition, works from short-form creators such as ▲"Thirty" ▲"Sokdoksaenim" ▲"Ketchup King" and award-winning entries from contests will also be featured.
Kim Hyo-jeong, head of the business for Naver Webtoon Cuts, noted, "Short-form animation is a format that allows for a variety of experimental attempts," adding, "I hope that new storytelling will emerge through Cuts, and the opportunities for readers and creators to meet will expand."
Based on its experience building the domestic webtoon ecosystem starting with the UGC service "Challenging Comics" in 2006, Naver Webtoon plans to expand its creative ecosystem into the animation realm through Cuts. It is also expected to introduce a creator support program later this year.
