Samsung Electronics announced on the 25th that it will begin a software update applying the operating system (OS) 'One UI' for AI (artificial intelligence) appliances released after 2024 starting next month. Through this, it aims to establish an ecosystem where useful software features can be integrated and used across various devices such as mobile phones, TVs, and home appliances.
With this One UI update, the AI capabilities of existing appliances will be further enhanced, and the range of applicable devices will be expanded. The Family Hub refrigerator and refrigerators equipped with an 'AI Home' touchscreen will support the 'Now Brief' feature, which automatically recommends personalized information based on the user's location, time, and usage habits starting next year.
Additionally, there will be more ways to call 'Bixby' from the refrigerator. In addition to the existing 'Hi Bixby' calling method, users can also summon Bixby by double-tapping the refrigerator screen. The 'Voice ID,' which recognizes and distinguishes voices to provide personalized features such as schedules, photos, and accessibility settings, along with the 'AI Vision Inside 2.0' feature that automatically recognizes 37 types of fresh food, will be expanded to screen-equipped refrigerators released after 2024.
Samsung Electronics' unique security solution 'Knox' will also be applied to more diverse appliances. 'Knox Matrix,' which provides threat detection and protection functions between devices connected via SmartThings based on blockchain technology, will be expanded to various product lines such as Wi-Fi-equipped refrigerators and washing machines produced in 2024.
For appliances like refrigerators and washer-dryers equipped with 32-inch and 7-inch screens, the 'Knox Dashboard' feature will be applied, allowing users to check the security status of connected mobile, TV, and appliance devices at a glance.
Samsung Electronics plans to support up to 7 years of free One UI upgrades for Wi-Fi-equipped appliances released after 2024, ensuring that customers can continuously enjoy new AI features and enhanced security performance throughout the product's usage cycle.
