LG Uplus and the Korean National Police Agency will sign a business agreement to implement real-time response to voice phishing using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
The Korean National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters announced on the 24th that it signed a business agreement for "the use of AI technology to prevent telephone financial fraud and other public safety crimes" at the LG Uplus headquarters on the 22nd.
The police will receive data from LG Uplus's communication infrastructure and AI technology, including detected abnormal patterns, malicious app control server logs, suspicious text message sender numbers, and relay device information, to link it with crime databases and investigation information.
The Korean National Police Agency provided crime databases to LG Uplus last year, which were used by the AI call agent service "ixi-O" developed by LG Uplus for learning.
The suspicious data related to voice phishing obtained through the detection and blocking functions of ixi-O will be shared with the police again. Through this, the police's plan is to strengthen the real-time response system that goes from pre-awareness of voice phishing to immediate response and post-tracking.
Both sides will collaborate to protect victims of voice phishing. LG Uplus will designate its security specialty stores as "shelters in the field" for victims of crime or suspected infected individuals with malicious apps. Additionally, they plan to establish an emergency response process that connects from initial response through security consulting to handover to the police.
Park Seong-joo, head of the National Investigation Headquarters, said, "Voice phishing is a serious crime that infringes on public safety," adding that "this agreement will serve as a model case to prevent crimes through public and private collaboration."
Hong Beom-sik, CEO of LG Uplus, also stated, "We will continue to fulfill our role as a responsible private corporation to create a society where citizens can feel safe in collaboration with the Korean National Police Agency."
