Elon Musk, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tesla, stated that he aims to grow his artificial intelligence (AI) startup xAI into "the world's best AI corporation" and expressed his ambition to surpass Google soon. He also announced plans to release some AI models from xAI as open source.
Musk CEO declared in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on the 23rd (local time) that "xAI will soon surpass all corporations except Google and ultimately exceed Google." He predicted that xAI's strongest competitor would be a Chinese corporation, explaining, "The reason is that China has much more power than the United States and is very strong in hardware construction."
Musk participated in the establishment of OpenAI with Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, in 2015 but parted ways with OpenAI when he resigned from the board in 2018. After OpenAI released ChatGPT in 2022, he established xAI in July 2023, promising to introduce an AI model that would surpass it. xAI unveiled its first AI model, "Grok," in November of that year, followed by Grok 2 in August last year, Grok 3 in February of this year, and Grok 4 last month.
While launching Grok 4, Musk boasted that this model is "above PhD level in all subjects for academic questions." However, after this chatbot repeatedly posted content supporting Hitler, inciting controversy, the company issued an apology statement in response.
Meanwhile, Musk announced through X that xAI would release the source of the Grok 2.5 model. He stated, "Last year's top model, xAI Grok 2.5, is now open source," and added that "Grok 3 will be made open source in about six months."
