Google has decided to offer its artificial intelligence (AI) model Gemini and cloud services to U.S. federal government agencies at a stunning price of $0.47 per year. This is more than half cheaper than the $1 offered by competitors OpenAI and Anthropic.
On the 21st (local time), Google announced in a statement that it would provide 'Gemini for Government' to federal government agencies for $0.47 per year, allowing them to use the latest AI model at a lower expense.
Previously, on the 6th of this month, OpenAI announced that it would offer ChatGPT to the federal government for $1 per year, and Anthropic also stated on the 12th that it would provide its AI chatbot Claude under the same conditions.
In April, Google had previously decided to collaborate with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to supply workspace tools to federal agencies at a 71% discounted price.
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, explained, 'Gemini for Government allows federal agencies to utilize the latest AI models and secure cloud infrastructure to carry out their critical missions.'
Michael Regas, Acting Administrator of the GSA, noted, 'Thanks to this contract with Google and the AI leadership of the Trump administration, federal agencies can expect an innovative transformation in their operations.'
Earlier this month, the GSA formally registered Google Gemini, OpenAI ChatGPT, and Anthropic Claude in the federal government's procurement system, along with xAI's Grok. This is a measure in accordance with the 'AI Implementation Plan' announced by President Trump last month, and it is expected to accelerate the federal government's expansion of AI adoption.
