LG Uplus announced on the 21st that its kids-only experiential learning platform "KidsTopia" surpassed 2 million cumulative subscribers as of last month. After exceeding 1 million in January, the number of subscribers has more than doubled in about six months. The expansion into 11 international markets is analyzed to have had a positive impact on the increase in users.
KidsTopia is a learning platform where children can enjoy various play activities in a virtual experiential space. They can learn about animals, nature, and foreign languages while interacting with artificial intelligence (AI) characters. The company noted, "The platform features a shift away from traditional one-way video learning, allowing children to engage in experiential activities and playful learning in a virtual space, making studying enjoyable."
Since its domestic launch in May 2023, KidsTopia has continuously expanded the number of countries where it offers services. It provides services in Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, the United States, Japan, and recently in Australia, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand.
As the number of service countries expands, the proportion of users accessing the service from abroad continues to grow. The percentage of KidsTopia users accessing the platform from abroad increased from 42% in June of last year to over 67% within a year. Notably, from March to June, users in the United States grew by about 340%.
An analysis of KidsTopia user patterns by LG Uplus revealed a high interest in content introduced in collaboration with other corporations and organizations. The "Earth Love Exploration Team Mudflat Experience," which opened in April, saw about 40% of its users accessing the service from countries like the Philippines and Malaysia. It is speculated that the opportunity to experience the mudflat ecosystem, which is rarely seen abroad, contributed to its popularity. The promotional hall for the K-pop girl group "If I" also recorded over 130,000 cumulative visitors within about three months of opening.
LG Uplus enhanced the gamification elements within the KidsTopia app, such as daily missions and challenges, earlier this month. Gamification refers to applying game mechanics and design elements to encourage engagement with the content. LG Uplus plans to collaborate with corporations and organizations in fields such as animations, ESG, and advanced science to create content for children.
Kim Min-gu, the PM of LG Uplus KidsTopia TF, said, "As overseas customers have been increasingly attracted, KidsTopia has been able to pursue various collaborations with other corporations. We aim to establish KidsTopia as a global experiential learning platform that both children and parents can trust and use through diverse content that allows them to experience and interact directly."
