Ryu Young-sang, CEO of SK Telecom, said on the 20th, "We will launch a large language model (LLM) with 5 trillion parameters by the end of the year."
Ryu noted on his LINKED account, "Our goal is to lead innovative changes in industries such as office, manufacturing, automotive, gaming, and robotics." It is known that having many parameters helps improve performance by allowing the model to learn more information.
Ryu said, "SK Telecom and our partners were selected as one of the top five leading consortiums for the national foundational AI model development project commissioned by the Ministry of Science and ICT on the 4th," adding, "Our consortium is composed of prominent domestic companies such as KRAFTON, 42dot, Rebellions, Liner, and SelectStar, along with prestigious universities like Seoul National University and KAIST."
He further added, "What's even more special is that our colleagues from the K-AI Alliance, including FriendliAI, Lablup, MakinaRocks, Nota, and Twelve Labs, are participating in the project."
He commented on the vision of the consortium, saying, "Beyond the existing domestic LLM architecture, we aim to create AI agents that everyone in Korea can access and reshape the future of AI together."
Ryu emphasized that the unique aspect of the SK Telecom consortium is that it is "the only group that can provide the entire stack of AI innovation," stating that data, LLM, AI semiconductors, and services are all included in an integrated network.
