LG Electronics announced on the 19th that it will showcase 25 new refrigerator and washing machine models aimed at the European market at the 'IFA 2025', the largest home appliance exhibition in Europe, which will open on the 5th of next month (local time) in Berlin, Germany.
LG Electronics explained that it has improved the energy efficiency of its new products considering the surge in energy prices in Europe, which emphasizes energy efficiency. It also added that the new models are designed to maintain cooling for a longer period.
In the case of refrigerators, the insulation has been strengthened to reduce the operation of the compressor needed for maintaining temperature, and artificial intelligence optimizes compressor operation based on usage patterns to save electricity. LG Electronics explained that major new products, such as bottom freezers (top refrigerating and bottom freezing refrigerators) and French doors (upper two-door refrigerator and bottom drawer freezer), have significantly improved energy consumption compared to last year, achieving industry-leading efficiency.
Among the washing machine products, LG Electronics will introduce a highly efficient wash combo dryer product aimed at the European market, which has commercialized all-in-one washing and drying machines early. LG Electronics launched the 'LG Signature Heat Pump Wash Combo,' which was the first in Europe to receive an A-grade energy efficiency rating among all-in-one washing and drying machines in 2021, and has since become number one in this market.
LG Electronics explained that among the 25 new products, the bottom freezer refrigerator and washing machine models recorded top energy efficiency that surpasses the European A-grade energy efficiency standards.
To fit the narrow structure of European homes, LG Electronics applied a zero clearance hinge that rotates the refrigerator door inward, allowing it to be installed flush against a wall or cabinetry while still being able to open and close the door. Also, in the case of the French door refrigerator, the height has been increased by about 80 mm to consider the average height of Europeans while maintaining the width to increase capacity.
The internal structure has also been designed with various food storage patterns in mind, creating a two-tier shelf in the refrigerator section of the French door, and considering European eating habits, it reduces the width of the door basket to prevent items like sauce bottles from toppling over when the refrigerator door is opened.
For washers and dryers, LG Electronics will expand its lineup featuring controllers equipped with liquid crystal display (LCD) screens, reflecting the diverse course usage patterns of European customers compared to other regions. Products with displays offer more freedom in user interface (UI) changes than those with dial knobs. Customers can identify frequently used courses themselves and rearrange them at the top of the screen or provide information such as remaining wash time.
For those with limited access to home appliances, LG Electronics will also launch the 'LG Comfort Kit' exclusively for the European market. The kit includes two types of 'Easy Handle' perfectly sized for 24-inch washing machines and dryers for Europe, and 'Easy Ball,' allowing customers who have difficulty using their fingers or lack strength in their arms to easily open and close the washing machine drum and detergent drawer or operate the dial knobs.
According to global market research firm Statista, the European home appliance market is expected to reach approximately 150 trillion won by 2025, making it one of the largest premium markets alongside North America. The market growth rate is projected to average 4.1% annually until 2030, indicating significant growth potential. LG Electronics plans to strengthen its leadership in the home appliance business with locally optimized products in the rapidly growing European market.
Park Hee-wook, managing director of product planning at LG Electronics, said, 'We will strengthen our market leadership by presenting new products optimized for the European home appliance market and customers' lifestyles, offering a new customer experience delivered by LG home appliances.'
