KT announced on the 14th that it has established a network safety operation system at large commemorative event sites and densely populated areas such as major vacation spots and airports nationwide, considering the 80th anniversary of Independence Day and the summer vacation period.
During the upcoming long weekend, including Independence Day on the 15th, a higher-than-usual demand for domestic travel and overseas departures is expected. KT has taken measures to respond to network overload situations. To ensure smooth communication services for the '80th anniversary of Independence Day eve celebration' starting on the 14th, the quality of communications near the event site has been strengthened.
The '80th anniversary of Independence Day eve celebration' will take place at the Gyeongbokgung Palace Heunglyemun Square and the National Assembly Central Plaza in Yeouido. Large-scale programs, including celebratory performances and a drone show, will be held on-site. To prepare for this, KT has deployed mobile base station vehicles at the event location and completed optimization work for nearby base stations.
KT noted, "This measure goes beyond simple traffic expansion and is designed as a flexible network operation system that can immediately respond to irregular communication demands concentrated in specific times and places," adding, "We are also prepared to recognize and address service quality degradation or failure situations in real-time through a connection with on-site response personnel and the control center."
KT has also enhanced the traffic concentration management system at over 130 major vacation spots nationwide, including Haeundae, Gyeongpo Beach, and Daecheon Beach. In high-load areas, capacity has been expanded through equipment augmentation and traffic distribution. A system that automatically adjusts quality based on time-based demand forecasts will ensure stable voice and data services during the holiday period.
At major airports such as Incheon International Airport and Gimhae and Jeju airports, roaming traffic concentration monitoring will be implemented. The dual system check among local roaming operators has also been completed. Additionally, compatibility and recovery scenarios for roaming equipment, including the Gateway Location Register (GLR) and Roaming Service Control Point (RSCP), have been pre-validated.
Oh Taek-kyun, head of KT's Network Operations Innovation Division, said, "The vacation season is a time when domestic and international travel demand is concentrated simultaneously, so advance preparation is very important for providing stable communication services," and added, "We plan to strengthen network stability and recovery systems across the country so that customers can confidently use communication services anytime, anywhere."
