Nexon announced on the 14th that an employee of a subcontractor who pre-leaked key announcements from the year-end showcase of its popular game 'MapleStory' will be liable for 100 million won in damages.
On that day, Kim Chang-seop, the general director of MapleStory, said through a live broadcast, "It has been confirmed that an employee of a partner company leaked key content externally before the official announcement," and explained, "Nexon immediately filed both a criminal complaint and a civil damages lawsuit against the individual involved."
Director Kim said, "Recently, the court ruled in favor of Nexon, ordering the leaking party and the affiliated company to pay 100 million won in damages."
Director Kim stated, "Disseminating information that has not been made public through official channels or making similar attempts is an illegal act that hinders the smooth operation of game services," adding, "We will continue to respond sternly to such information leaks without leniency."
Previously, Nexon held the 'Maple Winter Showcase' event on Dec. 7 to introduce major updates for 2025 at KINTEX in Goyang, Korea.
The problem arose when the main announcements of the showcase were leaked through online communities before the event.
Nexon stated, "The employee was in a position with access to internal project materials, and it was confirmed that they had passed this information to third parties and external communities, prompting our response," adding, "The criminal complaint is currently undergoing procedural processing through investigative agencies."
Additionally, they noted, "As a result of this incident, we are strengthening security training for internal personnel including partner companies, enforcing access control for confidential information, and enhancing log monitoring systems as part of comprehensive internal security measures."
