Ryu Young-sang, CEO of SK Telecom, returned to the world's largest business platform, LINKED, for the first time since the hacking incident, expressing his thoughts. On the 13th, he said, "SK Telecom has always upheld the value of customer first," adding, "This cyber security incident was a reminder of our responsibilities." He resumed external communication, which had been paused since the hacking incident, and noted, "We reflect deeply and return to the basics, redefining our responsibilities not only in strategy but for a better future."
He also presented a vision for the future. Ryu noted, "We will become a telecommunications company that leads in security and a corporation that builds the safest and most advanced artificial intelligence (AI)." He concluded with a gratitude for trust, stating that he would not take it for granted.
SK Telecom recently announced a customer compensation plan worth approximately 500 billion won and an information security innovation plan totaling 700 billion won, right after the government's final investigation results were released. Additionally, on the 4th, it was selected as one of five elite teams in the government-driven 'independent AI foundation model' project.
Ryu met with reporters the previous day at the 'Government and Telecom Companies AI Investment Cooperation Declaration Ceremony' held at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul and said, "In a competitive global AI environment, the government is playing a role in policy support that serves as a catalyst," adding, "SK Telecom's AI strategy also needs to change." He stated, "While maintaining a major direction of 'self-strengthening' based on our own technological capabilities and 'cooperation' with global corporations, we plan to adjust some of the detailed strategies."
