Anthropic is providing its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot Claude to the U.S. government for one year at $1, following OpenAI.
According to reports from Reuters and other sources on Dec. 12 (local time), Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, noted, "For the U.S. to maintain its AI leadership, government agencies must have access to the most capable and safest AI tools." Financial Times reported that Anthropic plans to offer the same service to members of Congress and judges, in addition to federal government agencies.
Earlier, on the 6th, OpenAI announced it would provide a more secure and privacy-enhanced version of ChatGPT Enterprise to U.S. federal government agencies for one year at $1. Google is also reportedly in negotiations to provide its Gemini chatbot to federal government employees under similar conditions.
Previously, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) approved OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google as suppliers for a new marketplace for bulk purchases of AI software. According to OpenAI, the monthly active user count for ChatGPT is 700 million. Gemini follows with 450 million.
