The micro light-emitting diode (LED) market, noted as a 'game changer' in the next-generation display market, is forecasted to grow to $1.3 billion (1.8 trillion won) by 2030.

According to a report published on the 13th by market research firm UBI Research, global micro LED TV production capacity is expected to expand from around 50,000 units per year in 2023 to 6 million units by 2030.

Micro LED is a flat panel display technology that offers higher brightness, longer lifespan, and superior durability compared to organic light-emitting diodes (OLED), gaining attention in the premium TV and next-generation wearable device markets.

UBI Research noted that the full-scale commercialization of micro LED will begin after 2027, driven by improved production efficiency and reduced manufacturing costs, and it is analyzed that high growth of over 50% annually will continue from 2028.

Factors such as increased demand for premium TVs, expansion of production infrastructure, diversification of application fields, and varied price competitiveness are expected to impact the rapid growth of the micro LED market.

Kim Joo-han, an analyst at UBI Research, said, 'The micro LED TV market will change the competitive landscape of the premium TV market and affect the revenue structure across the industry.' He added, 'New growth opportunities will be created throughout the value chain.'

UBI Research will hold a 'Display Strategy Seminar for Preparing 2026' on the 5th of next month at the Science and Technology Convention Center in Gangnam, Seoul, to discuss specific market forecasts and the ripple effects by industry.
