The Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) and the National Radio Research Agency (RRA) announced on the 12th that they will hold a joint workshop on 'next-generation broadcasting technology standardization.'
The workshop, which will be held on the 13th, will be attended by policymakers and technical officials from the Ministry of Science and ICT, the RRA, as well as industry experts from major broadcasters such as KBS, MBC, and SBS.
The event aims to share trends in domestic and international standardization, including broadcasting transmission technology applying the latest artificial intelligence (AI), real-time positioning information correction service (RTK) based on the ATSC 3.0 ultra-high-definition broadcasting standard.
It will also address changes and standardization directions that AI will bring to broadcasting, including video switching using AI and low-resolution to high-resolution conversion.
The AI video switching technology, which enables automation in broadcast media production and improves video quality through automatic selection of camera angles using AI, will be introduced to provide viewers with an enhanced immersive experience.
It will also share technology that allows AI to convert low-resolution videos to high-definition on viewer devices and optimize traffic, reducing transmission traffic for broadcasters while allowing viewers to experience clearer image quality.
Son Seung-hyun, chairman of the TTA, stated, 'I hope this will be an opportunity to create a new impact in the convergence of AI and broadcasting technology,' and added, 'Just as our country led the ATSC in broadcasting technology, this workshop will lay the groundwork for leading AI-applied broadcasting technology standards.'
