Global taxi-hailing platform Uber Taxi announced on the 12th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Busan Metropolitan City Tourism and MICE Bureau to enhance transportation convenience for foreign tourists visiting Busan during the 'Festival October' period.
The signing ceremony held on the 11th was attended by Song Jin-woo, head of Uber Taxi Korea, and Kim Hyun-jae, Director General of the Busan Tourism and MICE Bureau, among other officials. The two sides will work together to jointly promote the convergence festival 'Festival October', which will be held from September 21 to October 3, throughout Busan, focusing on Haeundae and the North Port, and to provide convenient and safe transportation services for foreign tourists during the event.
Director General Kim Hyun-jae noted, "Tourism and transportation are inextricably linked, and appropriate transportation is a key factor that affects tourist satisfaction," adding, "At a time when we are on the cusp of surpassing 3 million foreign tourists, we will do our utmost to establish a tourist accommodation system for the successful hosting of 'Festival October.'"
Head Song Jin-woo said, "This partnership is significant as it marks our third collaboration with the city of Busan," adding, "Based on the trust and collaboration experience accumulated so far, we will contribute to the development of the tourism industry and the revitalization of the local economy."
Meanwhile, Uber Taxi continues to grow in Busan following its rebranding in 2024. As of last month, the number of rides in the Busan area increased by about 40% compared to the same month the previous year. The company explained that factors contributing to growth include a familiar app environment for foreign tourists, convenient payment options, and support for native languages.
