KT has been selected as the preferred bidder for the 83.2 billion won 'National Information and Communication Network Backbone Construction and Operation Project' promoted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
According to the Public Procurement Service's Narajangteo on the 10th, KT ranked first in the second national information and communication network project (national convergence network) bid, initiated by the National Information Resources Management Agency under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, with a total score of 99.9831 points, beating SK Broadband (96.9831 points) and LG Uplus (94 points).
The project aims to convert the communication networks individually operated by 48 government ministries and local governments into a backbone network, with a total project scale of about 83 billion won. The project duration is five years, until June 30, 2031.
To ensure the stability and survivability of the national information and communication network, the project will be divided into Network 1 (local government network, about 48.1 billion won) and Network 2 (government office network, about 35 billion won). The first phase of the project will be undertaken by SK Broadband and LG Uplus, with each responsible for Network 1 and Network 2, respectively.
In this bidding, KT secured first place in both Network 1 and Network 2; however, according to the principle of dualization, it is expected that SK Broadband, the second-place bidder, will take charge of Network 2.
