SoftBank Group of Japan is accelerating its $500 billion (approximately 680 trillion won) 'Stargate' data center project, which it is pursuing with OpenAI and Oracle, by acquiring the electric vehicle factory of Taiwan's Foxconn in Ohio, as reported by Bloomberg News on the 8th.
According to the report, SoftBank acquired the factory for $375 million (approximately 521.7 billion won). Bloomberg noted that this acquisition is part of the Stargate project, and SoftBank secured this transaction to mobilize Foxconn for the construction of AI data centers and related infrastructure in the United States.
On January 21, the day after Donald Trump was inaugurated, SoftBank unveiled the 'Stargate' project, a joint venture with OpenAI and Oracle to establish data centers in the United States, revealing plans to invest up to $500 billion over the next four years to build AI-related infrastructure across the country.
