WEBZEN announced on July 7 that its revenue for the second quarter of 2025 was 39.1 billion won, and its operating profit was 6.1 billion won. This represents a decline of 18.6% and 47.7%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
WEBZEN's cumulative revenue for the first half of the year was 80.6 billion won, and its operating profit was 15 billion won, down 26.3% and 49.4%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
Regarding the decline in first-half performance, WEBZEN noted that the decrease in revenue was due to the absence of new game launches and the overall recession in the domestic gaming market. Although overseas sales (19.7 billion won), which have played a cash cow role through services like "Metin" and intellectual property partnerships for "MU," showed little fluctuation, their proportion of total revenue in the second quarter (51%) has surpassed that of domestic operations for the first time in nearly two years.
WEBZEN said it is preparing for a rebound in performance by focusing on the launch of new titles, including "Dragon Sword" and "MU: Pocket Knights," in the second half of this year. It plans to secure additional release schedules for games that are set to launch within this year by checking the development status of its subsidiaries. Additionally, new games developed by its subsidiaries specializing in development, including a multiplayer role-playing game (MMORPG) based on Unreal Engine 5, will also reveal game information starting this year according to the business schedule.
Gen.Kim Tae-young, the CEO of WEBZEN, stated, "We are focusing on improving the development process for the new games we are preparing to ensure their game quality and solidify their position as hit games," adding, "We continue to invest externally to secure excellent development studios, and we are in the process of swiftly organizing the business schedule for the launch of unreleased titles that have met development quality among the new games currently in progress."
