Google announced on the 7th that it will provide a subscription plan worth 29,000 won per month, 'Google AI Pro,' free for one year to university and graduate students in the country.
This limited 'Google AI Pro' plan for university (graduate) students is a special subscription benefit where domestic university students aged 18 and over can receive the 'Google AI Pro' plan free for one year by completing school email verification and registering one personal Google account. Applications can be made via a dedicated link from the 7th to October 6.
A Google representative noted, "Students who apply can freely experience the advanced features of 'Google AI Pro,' such as multimodal search, coding support, and video generation for one year."
'Google AI Pro' is a subscription plan based on Google's artificial intelligence (AI) model, 'Gemini 2.5 Pro.' In Korea, the monthly subscription fee for individual users is 29,000 won.
'Google AI Pro' offers various generative AI tools that assist with academic tasks like assignments and writing quickly, including 'Deep Research,' which collects and summarizes information on complex topics from hundreds of websites, the AI-based thinking tool 'NotebookLM,' which supports five times more AI audio and video outlines, 'Bio 3,' which generates an 8-second video with audio when text or images are input, and the AI coding agent 'Jules,' which supports everything from bug fixing to feature development. A storage space of 2 terabytes (TB), enough to store photos, documents, and assignments, is also provided.
To raise awareness of the student-only free benefits and promote a culture of AI utilization among students, Google is also running a 'Gemini Student Ambassador' program targeting a total of 100 ambassadors selected from about 20 universities nationwide. The final selected students will participate in various promotional activities and hands-on programs to introduce the use of Gemini and foster an AI technology-centered campus culture, starting with a launch ceremony on the 11th through December. YouTube mega creator 'MimiMinu' is scheduled to attend the launch ceremony as an honorary ambassador.
A Google representative said, "This program is designed to support university students in utilizing AI technology as a practical learning tool, enhancing accessibility to AI technology, and expanding their experiences in more creative and practical ways." He added, "In the future, Google will continue to support more students in growing and expanding their opportunities through AI."
