AX corporation LG CNS announced on the 6th that it has won a project to build an artificial intelligence (AI) data center overseas, the first for a domestic corporation. The plan is to complete a hyper-scale AI data center worth about 100 billion won in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, by the end of 2026.
LG CNS has signed a contract for the AI data center construction project with "KMG (Kuningan Mas Gemilang)" through its joint venture "LG Sinar Mas Technology Solutions" with Sinar Mas Group, the third-largest corporation in Indonesia.
This project is a plan to construct a hyper-scale AI data center on 11 floors above ground (with a total floor area of 46,281 square meters) that can accommodate more than 100,000 servers at once and has a power supply capacity of 30 megawatts (MW). After the first phase of construction, KMG plans to expand the total power supply capacity to 220 MW, creating the largest data center in Indonesia.
KMG has been promoting the development of the AI data center in a joint venture with Sinar Mas Group and Korea Investment Partners Asset Management. Sinar Mas has identified data centers and cloud services as future growth engines, selecting LG CNS, which leads Korea's data center and cloud business, as a partner. Based on its successful capacity from last year's consulting and design contract for the AI data center construction with KMG, LG CNS was able to win this project. LG CNS will oversee infrastructure projects such as cooling systems, power, and communication, worth around 100 billion won.
LG CNS stated that it will apply integrated solutions for this AI data center construction project, mobilizing core capabilities within the group, including design, construction, and operation (DBO) of data centers, LG Electronics' data center cooling technology, and LG Energy Solution's battery solutions. It also plans to introduce design and construction methods specialized for graphics processing unit (GPU) farms to meet the rapidly increasing demand for AI computing in Indonesia and the Asia region.
Hyun Shin-kyun, CEO of LG CNS, noted, "We will build a cutting-edge AI data center that innovates customer value by consolidating LG CNS's data center capabilities," adding, "We will use this project as a stepping stone to further expand the AI data center business into global regions, including Southeast Asian markets such as Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia."
