On the 31st, Samsung Electronics stated during an earnings announcement conference call that "the conclusion of tariff negotiations between the United States and South Korea has reduced uncertainty. We are closely monitoring additional discussion points between the two countries regarding the details and preparing response measures," adding, "We are also keeping an eye on the results of the Department of Commerce's investigation under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act concerning semiconductors and semiconductor-derived products, expected to be announced in mid-August."
It further noted, "The investigation encompasses not only semiconductors but also includes finished goods such as smartphones, tablets, monitors, and PCs, so we expect there will be significant effects on our business. We have been providing input both directly and indirectly throughout the Section 232 investigation process by the U.S. Department of Commerce," and added, "We have been closely communicating with the authorities of both countries and will analyze the opportunities and risks based on the results of the South Korea-U.S. consultations on semiconductors to prepare measures to minimize risks."
