Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta Platforms (hereinafter referred to as Meta), revealed his vision for superintelligent artificial intelligence (AI) on the 30th (local time).
Zuckerberg said in a video posted on Facebook that "the development of superintelligent AI is right around the corner" and that "this AI will usher in a new era of 'personal empowerment.'" Superintelligent AI refers to AI that surpasses human intelligence. Meta recently established the Meta Superintelligence Research Institute for the development of superintelligent AI and has invested billions of dollars, recruiting dozens of AI talents from the industry.
He emphasized that Meta will take "a different approach than other corporations in the industry" in developing superintelligent AI, stating, "We will develop AI in a way that helps people's personal lives rather than focusing on labor automation."
He continued, "The pace of AI advancement is accelerating, and we have begun to witness early signs of AI systems improving themselves in recent months," adding, "While the development of superintelligence is now within sight, a large question remains: for what purpose will superintelligence be used?"
He highlighted that "much more meaningful changes in our lives will come from having 'personal superintelligence' that helps everyone achieve their individual goals, create what they want in the world, become better friends, and grow into the person they aspire to be."
Zuckerberg predicted, "The next 10 years will be a critical period that will determine the direction this technology takes," stating, "It will be decided whether superintelligence will be a tool for expanding individual capabilities or a force that replaces the majority of society."
However, he did not mention specifically what products or applications (apps) Meta will develop through the 'Superintelligence Research Institute.'
