A mobile phone store that allows sign-ups for domestic communication services with illegal passports has appeared on JTBC web entertainment, sparking controversy.
On the 24th, a YouTube content series titled "I'm a New Police Officer, but I'm Going to Garibong-dong!?" was uploaded. Workdoll is a popular segment of the YouTube channel 'Workman,' which has 4.17 million subscribers.
In the video, Tsuki, a member of the group Billlie, became a day police officer in Garibong-dong and patrolled nearby areas with actual police officers. Upon arriving at Garibong Market, Tsuki asked, "Didn't they say all the illegal businesses were cleaned up in 2023?" The police officer responded, "We focused on crackdowns on unlicensed businesses and have cleared out many."
Afterward, Tsuki and the police officer visited a mobile phone store. Some customers at the store were surprised to see them and hurriedly fled. The production team added subtitles saying, "Give me back my customers" to the expression of the flustered store owner.
During the progression of the content video, phrases displayed inside the store became controversial. One phrase read 'Illegal passport activation,' which means that SIM cards are being activated using passports illegally. This implies that foreign nationals staying illegally are using illegal passports to sign up for communication services. In response, comments such as 'They put illegal operations on the signboard' and 'Are the police just going to stand there and do nothing?' surfaced.
