OpenAI, the leading player in the generative artificial intelligence (AI) market, is expected to unveil its next-generation AI model, GPT-5, as early as next month.
Technology news outlet The Verge reported on the 25th (local time) that OpenAI has begun preparations for the public release of GPT-5.
According to the report, engineers from Microsoft (MS), OpenAI's main partner, have started securing server capacity for the operation of GPT-5. GPT-5 is the latest version of the large language model (LLM) that powers ChatGPT, which was originally scheduled for release in May but has been delayed due to an extended testing process.
GPT-5 is expected to be an AI model that performs multiple functions beyond a simple language model. Notably, a reasoning model that OpenAI has been developing separately is set to be integrated into GPT-5 for the first time, attracting more attention. OpenAI previously unveiled the 'o1' model in September and the 'o3' model in December of last year.
OpenAI Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sam Altman has officially announced the upcoming release of GPT-5. He noted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that it would be released soon and also appeared on a podcast to introduce some features directly.
Altman remarked, 'When I asked GPT-5 a question I didn't understand, it answered perfectly,' and added, 'I felt a strange sense of uselessness as AI instantly solved a question I should have been able to answer myself.'
