The actual thickness of a Chinese foldable phone advertised as "the thinnest in the world" has been found to differ from the advertisement by more than 0.6 mm.
The Korea Consumer Centered Enterprises Association (KCEA) announced on the 24th the results of measuring the actual thickness of five major foldable phones both domestically and internationally using an external micrometer.
The subjects of the measurement are the latest foldable smartphones from domestic and international brands such as Samsung Electronics, Honor, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Huawei.
The measurement results showed that Honor's Magic V5 was 9.34 mm, which is 0.54 mm thicker than the stated thickness of 8.8 mm. The Huawei Mate X6 had the largest deviation, measuring 10.47 mm, which is 0.62 mm thicker than the official specification of 9.85 mm.
The Vivo X Fold5 (9.77 mm) and Xiaomi Mix Fold4 (9.61 mm) were also thicker by 0.57 mm and 0.14 mm, respectively, compared to what was stated.
The Galaxy Z Fold7 recently released by Samsung Electronics measured 8.82 mm, which is 0.08 mm thinner than the official specification of 8.9 mm, making it the only model with an actual thickness under 9 mm.
According to KCEA, thickness measurements included internal and external display protective films but excluded protrusions from the camera, explaining, "We measured based on the form that consumers actually use."
According to industry sources, some Chinese manufacturers are known to be using figures that exclude films and cameras when calculating official specifications.
Honor states on its website that "measurements are based on laboratory standards and do not include protective films or cameras."
