Apple is introducing a new paid repair service that allows for integrated management of multiple devices under a single plan. The existing service, which required individual subscriptions, is being restructured into a bundled subscription model, aiming to improve user convenience and reduce expense.
On the 24th (local time), Apple launched a new paid warranty service, "AppleCare One," in the U.S. market. It is an extension of the existing mobile device insurance product, "AppleCare+," characterized by the ability to manage up to three Apple devices under a single plan. This is the first time that a bundled paid repair service has been introduced.
"AppleCare One" covers up to three devices such as iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watches for a monthly fee of $19.99 (approximately 27,000 won). Devices exceeding three can be registered for an additional fee of $5.99 (approximately 8,100 won) each. Apple explained that customers can save up to $11 (approximately 15,000 won) per month compared to subscribing to "AppleCare+" for each individual device.
The coverage is the same as that of the existing "AppleCare+". It includes unlimited repairs for accidental damage (such as drops and liquid intrusion), free battery replacements when performance declines, 24-hour technical support, and access to Apple-certified repair networks. Notably, the coverage for theft and loss has now been expanded from iPhones to include iPads and Apple Watches, enhancing protection against device loss. Claims for theft and loss coverage can be made for up to three incidents per year.
The requirements for device registration have been significantly relaxed. Previously, customers could only subscribe to "AppleCare+" within 60 days of purchasing a new device. However, with "AppleCare One," devices can be registered if they are in good condition, as long as they are purchased within a maximum of four years. However, some accessories, such as AirPods, are excluded. When registering an iPad, one Apple Pencil or Pencil Pro and one Magic Keyboard will also be included in the coverage.
Changes, upgrades, or replacements for devices registered under the plan will also be automatically reflected. If the user returns an existing device through Apple's trade-in program and purchases a new product, the existing device will be automatically removed from the plan, and the new product will be registered. Additionally, family devices linked to the Apple ID can be included in the plan, allowing for registration of family members' devices under a single plan.
This product can only be subscribed to in the United States. The global launch schedule, including for Korea, has not yet been announced.
