The Naver (NAVER) application (app) now enables the use of a mobile identification card that carries the same legal weight as a physical identification card.
On the 23rd, Naver attended the 'Mobile Identification Card Opening Event' held by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, launching the 'Naver Identification Card,' which can be utilized legally just like a physical identification card.
The Naver Identification Card supports a total of four types: ▲ driver's license ▲ resident registration card ▲ national veteran registration card ▲ foreigner registration card.
Android users with integrated circuit (IC) identification cards can prove their identity through the Naver app both online and offline. The iPhone operating system (iOS) version will be released later.
Users can utilize the Naver Identification Card to purchase alcohol online from the Naver Plus Store or when adult verification is needed at cafes, bars, etc. It can also be used to verify identity with the same legal weight as a physical identification card for civil service tasks at local community centers, government24 certificate issuance, and voting identity verification.
The identification card is stored in an encrypted form within the user's device security area. Even if the device is lost, additional verification processes such as biometric authentication or passwords ensure lower risks of theft or information leakage compared to a physical identification card.
