The competition for AI talent among big tech companies appears to be intensifying due to the competition in artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
U.S. CNBC reported on the 22nd (local time) that Microsoft (MS) has recently recruited numerous researchers from Google's AI organization, DeepMind, over the past few months. A source indicated that the number of personnel MS has brought in is about 20.
Amar Subramanya, an engineering vice president who worked at Google for 16 years and recently led the development of the AI model Gemini Assistant, announced on his LINKED profile that he has joined MS as a vice president in the AI organization.
Earlier last month, Adam Sadovsky, who worked at Google for 18 years and served as a senior engineer and director at DeepMind, also moved to MS in a vice president role.
Earlier this month, Sonal Gupta, who was an engineering leader at Google DeepMind, also reported through her LINKED profile that she has joined the MS AI team.
The recruits will develop new AI technologies to enhance the AI model Copilot and the Bing search engine within MS's AI organization, led by Mustapha Suleyman.
Suleyman was a co-founder of DeepMind. He naturally joined Google when it acquired DeepMind in 2014 and worked there.
After that, he moved to become the CEO of the AI startup Inflection in 2022, and by joining MS in 2023, he brought in a large number of Inflection researchers.
Currently, DeepMind is led by another co-founder, Demis Hassabis.
MS announced earlier this month that it would cut about 9,000 employees, which is approximately 4% of its global workforce, in order to reduce expenses, while it appears to be recruiting AI talent in large numbers.
