Saltlux announced on the 22nd that it is forming a consortium with KT to jointly develop the 'Independent Artificial Intelligence (AI) Foundation Model Development Project' organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
This project is a government-led initiative aimed at enhancing Korea's AI technology independence through the development of domestic independent large language models (LLMs). A total of 15 consortia participated in the project applications that closed on the 21st.
In this project, Saltlux plans to collaborate with KT to jointly perform the learning and development of the independent foundation model. A representative from Saltlux noted, "We expect that the independent LLM 'LUXIA' and our specialized inference technology will combine with KT's public service infrastructure through this project for faster commercialization and social diffusion."
The consortium includes KT and Saltlux, along with AI data construction specialist 'Crowdworks', global AI learning platform 'Mathpresso', humanoid AI robot company 'Tomorrow Robotics', the 'Korean National Police Agency' in the public safety service sector, 'Korea University Medical Center' in the medical field, and both 'Seoul National University' and 'Korea University' in the education sector, totaling 9 institutions. Additionally, there are 9 user organizations, including prominent legal institutions, law firms, semiconductor companies, and industries that require AI, forming a grand consortium of 18 institutions.
Lee Kyung-il, CEO of Saltlux, stated, "Based on Saltlux's independent model and technological capabilities, we will collaborate with trusted partners like KT to develop globally top-tier AI models."
The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to initially select 10 candidate consortia by the end of this month through this project, with the final five business operators to be announced in early August.
