AX corporation LG CNS announced on the 21st that it is targeting the U.S. manufacturing AX market in collaboration with global industrial automation solutions corporation Honeywell.
It is evaluated as a stepping stone for entering the North American market, having been selected as the first official partner for artificial intelligence (AI) and information technology (IT) services from Honeywell. LG CNS CEO Hyun Shin-kyun recently met with Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS) President Pramesh Maheshwari and other key executives in Houston, Texas, to jointly develop manufacturing AX technologies including AI-based factory automation and smart technologies.
Honeywell is a global tech corporation that supplies factory equipment sensors, control devices, and smart solutions across three main business sectors: industrial automation (IA), aerospace, and energy. Honeywell HPS is the organizational sector of Honeywell's industrial automation (IA) business, providing products and solutions for automating manufacturing processes in industries such as petrochemicals and pharmaceuticals.
This collaboration is key as it combines LG CNS's superior AX consulting and service infrastructure capabilities with Honeywell's long-standing expertise in production systems in the sensor and control device sectors. For instance, LG CNS's problem-solving AI agent can analyze various production equipment data collected in real time from Honeywell's customer production facilities' distributed control systems, allowing for immediate response from identifying issues to solutions. The two companies also plan to establish a 'manufacturing AX platform' that enhances the entire production process.
First, they will jointly develop a 'Manufacturing Execution System (MES)' applicable to various industries such as semiconductors, batteries, and petrochemicals. MES is a core system in manufacturing that manages equipment, processes, and personnel in real time, optimizing production processes to enhance productivity. LG CNS aims to establish an integrated MES that manages all stages of the production process by applying AI technology to production planning, work instructions, material handling, and quality control.
Additionally, the two companies will explore new AX business ventures based on successful cases from the production and logistics sectors of the 'AI 100 in 100 program' currently underway by LG CNS with Korean customers. One representative example includes the 'AI agent' service that analyzes factory equipment layout and connection structures via AI, predicting and analyzing potential risks in production sites that humans may easily overlook.
The 'AI 100 in 100 program' is a project in which LG CNS builds 100 generative AI services within 100 days for corporate clients struggling with the introduction of generative AI due to technology, expense, and time issues. Launched earlier this year, it has already seen about 200 successful cases and garnered a strong response. The two companies plan to utilize Honeywell's network, which includes over 100 major clients in the global manufacturing market, to expand manufacturing AX technology into global markets including the U.S. and Europe.
LG CNS CEO Hyun Shin-kyun stated, 'This collaboration is the first step for both companies to think together about business innovation for U.S. manufacturing customers and to seek technical solutions.' He added, 'LG CNS will leverage its long-accumulated top-tier AI and smart factory capabilities to provide differentiated manufacturing AX solutions to clients.'
