Kakao Entertainment announced on the 21st that the new ENA Monday-Tuesday drama "I Shopping," based on the Kakao Webtoon of the same name, will premiere at 10 p.m.
The webtoon "I Shopping" is set against a cruel transaction system where parents can request a refund for a child they adopted if they are unsatisfied, leading to the child's demise. The children, who survived the refund without knowing what was happening, embark on a desperate revenge against the parents who abandoned them and the brokers. The shocking premise of trading living children poses questions about the meaning of family and the essence of love, leaving a lasting impression. This work was serialized on Kakao Webtoon from 2016 to 2018, recording a total of 51 million views.
Based on this sense of issues and narrative completeness, "I Shopping" has been expanded into a drama. It is scheduled to air on ENA as a total of eight episodes and will also be released simultaneously on TVING. The drama "I Shopping" is expected to delve deeply into the narratives of revenge and redemption based on the original work's striking setup. With a strong cast including Yum Jung-ah, Won Jina, Choi Young-jun, and Kim Jin-young, it is already generating buzz before its release.
In addition to the drama's release, Kakao Webtoon and Kakao Page will sequentially release eight special side stories, containing the epilogue of the original work, starting from the 21st. The story will follow the now-adult children who were in their teens during the main story as they track down the still-active broker organization, culminating in the final narrative to uproot the lingering "I Shopping."
Along with the side story release, Kakao Webtoon will hold an event from 10 p.m. on the 21st to the 30th, offering users who read the "I Shopping" webtoon a chance to win up to 1,000 cash lottery tickets and 5,000 cash. The publication of the side stories and the drama airing are expected to create an organic synergy between the webtoon and the drama.
