LG CNS is entering the insect smart factory farm construction business. The project aims to digitalize and automate the production process of the insect industry, which is considered a future growth area in climate technology.
LG CNS stated on the 16th that it will officially launch the insect smart factory farm construction project based on manufacturing artificial intelligence transformation (AX) technology, participating in the groundbreaking ceremony for the insect industry base district hosted by Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province.
The insect industry base district to be built in Chuncheon, Gangwon, is expected to be equipped with advanced facilities capable of mass-producing insects such as mealworms. LG CNS is responsible for the AX-based production operation management and integrated control system, artificial intelligence (AI) growth management system, and automation of insect breeding, feed production, and environmental control facilities to be applied in this advanced smart factory farm.
In particular, the plan is to implement a large-scale automated mass production system capable of producing approximately 700 tons of mealworms by the end of the year, utilizing manufacturing AX technology for quality selection and precise control in the insect production process.
The AI growth management system will use vision AI technology to check the growth stages of insects, calculate the optimal shipping timing, and identify defective individuals to maximize production. Previously, manually separating diseased or dead insects made quality control difficult when the number of managed individuals increased to thousands or tens of thousands, thus limiting mass breeding. Additionally, LG CNS plans to automate the production process at each stage of breeding to implement a non-stop smart factory farm and integrate control of the entire insect production cycle into one system, thereby enhancing operational efficiency.
Through this project, LG CNS plans to promote the localization of the insect breeding platform and the standardization of manufacturing standard information and will present the 'K-insect standard model' in collaboration with Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province.
Kim Hong-geun, Vice President of LG CNS, noted, 'By integrating LG CNS's manufacturing AX innovation capabilities into the insect industry, we will provide customer value that is completely differentiated in terms of productivity and quality levels.' He added, 'We will contribute to making this insect smart factory farm a lighthouse factory in the K-insect industry in the future.'
