KT received a report alleging that it recruited users through false and misleading advertising related to a cyber intrusion incident involving SK Telecom, prompting the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) to conduct a fact-finding investigation.
The KCC noted on the 16th that it received a report about KT on the 7th and began a fact-finding investigation to verify the related matters.
In addition, the KCC determined that there might be legal violations, as its inspection of KT's headquarters on the 10th revealed that the sales and regional offices had potentially misrepresented or exaggerated the contractual conditions and service details to recruit users and discriminated against them.
It was also reported that there is a possibility of actions prohibited under the Telecommunications Business Act, which is why the fact-finding investigation has begun. The KCC stated that if violations are confirmed, it will take strict measures in accordance with relevant laws.
Meanwhile, it was reported that SK Telecom submitted a petition to the KCC on the 7th requesting an investigation into KT's illegal subsidies distribution and marketing practices that raise consumer anxiety, following SK Telecom's announcement of a temporary waiver of penalties for number porting subscribers on the 4th.
