LG Uplus announced on the 8th that it has published the 'Information Security White Paper 2024.' The document contains details about the company-wide security capability enhancement efforts conducted from last year to the first half of this year. This is the second time LG Uplus has issued a white paper disclosing its activities and achievements regarding information security and personal information protection, following last year.
LG Uplus has established a security organizational system centered around its information security center, which is directly under the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Chief Privacy Officer (CPO), who are C-level executives, oversee the company's information protection efforts. The center has divisions for information security technology and personal information protection. The information security technology division leads the application and review of the latest security technologies, the operation of security services, and the prevention and response activities for security incidents. The personal information protection division is responsible for establishing standards and managing and supervising to ensure that the company's personal and critical information is legally and securely protected.
The company also operates an information security advisory committee composed of external experts from the legal, industrial, and academic sectors. The advisory committee reviews the progress of LG Uplus's basic security enhancement activities through regular meetings held at least once a quarter.
The white paper also includes investment details for strengthening security capabilities. LG Uplus invested approximately 82.8 billion won in information security last year, which is an increase of about 19.6 billion won compared to the previous year. This year, the company plans to expand its investment by more than 30% compared to the previous year. The information security personnel have also increased to 293 from 157 in the previous year, representing an increase of 1.86 times.
This information security white paper includes the following highlights: ▲Comprehensive reconstruction of the internal security portal ▲New establishment of a personal information compliance inspection system ▲Enhancement of AI-based security monitoring functions ▲Opening of a privacy center to strengthen the rights of customers as information subjects ▲Hosting the first-ever hacking competition among telecommunications companies to discover next-generation cybersecurity experts ▲Operational achievements of a bug bounty program that rewards individuals who identify internal vulnerabilities.
Additionally, details about LG Uplus's customer damage prevention analysis system, which operates to prevent spam, smishing, and voice phishing damage, as well as its collaboration system with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, can also be found. Information about the newly established condition-based contract program in partnership with Soongsil University, aimed at fostering future security talents, is also introduced.
The white paper outlines the direction of LG Uplus's roadmap for achieving zero trust security, which involves not trusting any access and always performing verification. To transition to a zero trust security model, LG Uplus has analyzed its internal status and established improvement tasks to be implemented in phases. This year, as part of the first step of the roadmap, the focus will be on building foundational systems and infrastructure, enhancing endpoint security, and establishing access control models.
Hong Kwan-hui, head of the LG Uplus information security center, said, "To realize a 'bright world,' LG Uplus aims to strengthen security, directly tied to customer trust, to protect the daily lives of valuable customers and provide better experiences. In the future, we will firmly uphold our principles to further solidify the company's security system and continuously enhance our security capabilities, growing into a company that provides services where customers can feel most at ease."
