The Hoam Foundation announced on the 2nd that it will hold a special lecture titled 'Nobel Prize & Samsung Ho-Am Prize Laureates Lecture' at the BEXCO Convention Hall in Busan on the 12th.
The Hoam Foundation invites the best scholars from both domestic and international backgrounds every year to share advanced scientific knowledge with youth across the nation, hosting lectures that inspire their dreams and futures. Starting this year, it plans to select one major city to hold a nationwide series of special lectures, with the first event taking place in Busan.
The 2023 Nobel Prize in Chemistry laureate Moungi Bawendi, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Hyun Taek-Hwan, a 2012 Samsung Ho-Am Prize laureate, will each give lectures and participate in Q&A sessions on the topics of 'quantum dots' and 'nanotechnology,' respectively.
Professor Bawendi will speak on the theme 'Quantum Dots: From Curiosity to Technology,' sharing his life and research journey as a Nobel laureate and discussing how 'quantum dots' can change our future. Professor Hyun Taek-Hwan will address the theme 'Nanotechnology, How Can It Change Our Lives?' introducing the concept of nanotechnology and discussing its impact on our daily lives and the societal changes it can bring.
Kim Hwang-Sik, chairman of the Hoam Foundation, noted, 'This lecture, as part of the nationwide special lecture series, is particularly meaningful as it is held for the first time in Busan for the youth in the Busan and Gyeongnam regions.' He added, 'I hope it will be a valuable opportunity for young people to engage with the passion and challenging spirit of world-class scholars in science, nurturing their own dreams.'
Attendance at the lecture can be free of charge by preregistration on the Hoam Foundation's website, and after the event, the lecture video will be posted on the official Hoam Foundation YouTube channel.
