Wemade is accelerating next-generation game development in partnership with NVIDIA. The plan is to utilize advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology in game development to create adaptive games that change according to user choices and actions, stepping away from the existing standardized gameplay.
According to Wemade on the 30th, the company is developing an AI boss named 'Asterion' using NVIDIA's AI virtual character technology 'NVIDIA Ace' for its new massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) 'Mir 5.' 'Mir 5' is a sequel that inherits the universe of the global hit 'Mir 4.' It depicts the story of an expedition traveling to an unfamiliar world aboard the dimension-crossing ship 'Shin Gi-seon.' The development is underway at Wemade Next with the goal of release within this year.
'Asterion,' the AI boss, is an adaptive boss that learns real-time action data during battles with users to develop tactics, breaking away from fixed patterns commonly seen in existing games. It comprehensively analyzes various factors such as user location, health points (HP), mana points (MP), skills, stats, and buff status to execute new strategies at every moment. Consequently, users are prompted to think of new attack methods in every battle, allowing them to feel a greater sense of achievement upon victory.
A Wemade official noted, "AI technology-based game design can create a customized strategic environment reflecting the individual behaviors of users, enhancing the immersion and strategic depth of the game beyond simple content expansion."
'NVIDIA Ace' will also be applied to 'Black Vultures,' a new PC first-person shooter (FPS) game being developed by Wemade's subsidiary Disminzwar. The development team plans to offer AI-based strategic battlefield experiences through an AI combat analysis equipment called 'Viper,' which analyzes battlefield situations in real-time based on data collected from tactical cameras, drones, headsets, etc., and conveys enemy locations, risk factors, and movement paths to users.
'Black Vultures' tells the story of special forces members whose objectives in warfare have blurred due to the protracted nature of modern warfare, battling fiercely for personal survival and wealth outside of command structures. It features elements such as hyper-realistic visuals based on Unreal Engine 5, innovative psychological warfare stemming from the confrontation between three factions, and strategic battles based on a limited number of respawns.
Wemade launched the Steam page for 'Black Vultures' on the 10th, kicking off its strategy for the global market. A global play test is set for July. 'Viper' will be unveiled following the global play test.
Wemade is also pursuing a next-generation game development initiative called 'Infinity Play,' which combines AI and blockchain technology. The company explained, "This collaboration with NVIDIA is a key pillar in realizing that vision and a first step in providing new content experiences that go beyond the limitations of existing games," and added, "In the future, we will apply AI technology to various genres of games to offer more differentiated enjoyment and innovative experiences."
