LG Electronics is continuously engaged in social contribution activities to remember and express gratitude for the sacrifices and dedication of Korean War veterans both domestically and internationally.
LG Electronics recently announced that it delivered teff, a staple food in the country, along with daily necessities and living support funds to 54 surviving veterans in Ethiopia, the only African nation that participated in the Korean War. Since 2013, it has been supporting scholarships to about 230 descendants of veterans experiencing economic difficulties.
LG Electronics has also been actively engaged in social contribution activities to help Ethiopian youth become self-reliant. LG Electronics is responsible for the operation of the 'LG-KOICA Hope Vocational Training School,' established in 2014 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in collaboration with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). This school offers technical education in the fields of IT and electronics free of charge, and provides lunch and transportation to allow students to focus more on their studies.
It also supports employment and entrepreneurship for graduates, including descendants of veterans, to help them grow into healthy members of society. So far, all 541 graduates of the LG-KOICA Hope Vocational Training School have succeeded in employment and entrepreneurship, with over 70 graduating this year.
The LG Electronics manufacturing facility in Tennessee has recently donated washing machines and dryers to homes of Korean War veterans in collaboration with the Korean Association in Nashville, providing support such as household appliances and donations to about 30 veteran households residing in Tennessee since 2020.
The LG Electronics Thailand branch donated air conditioners to a housing support project for veterans in cooperation with the South Korean embassy in Thailand and the Thailand Korean War Veterans Association last year.
Domestically, the 'Life's Good' volunteer group, formed through the voluntary participation of employees, is engaged in social contribution activities utilizing AI (artificial intelligence). Recently, the LG Electronics volunteer group used AI-based image restoration technology to recreate and deliver photographs of veterans from the 6.25 Korean War Veterans Association depicting their younger selves. They are also developing an interactive AI chatbot that introduces veterans from 12 countries, including the Netherlands, Denmark, and the Philippines, based on public data from the Ministry of Veterans Affairs.
Yoon Dae-sik, executive vice president of external relations at LG Electronics, noted, "Through social contribution activities that combine technology and heart, we will continue to remember the noble sacrifices and dedication of the veterans and express our gratitude."
