KT announced on the 18th that it conducted a comprehensive safety inspection of over 20,000 major communication facilities nationwide in preparation for the full-scale rainy season.
KT focused intensively on assessing the drainage, flooding, tipping, and collapse risks of major communication facilities, such as national communication offices, base stations, communication poles, and transmission towers.
In particular, a detailed inspection was conducted based on a manual that analyzed and organized response experiences and improvements regarding risk factors, based on disaster and calamity cases that occurred in recent years.
The inspection also looked into industrial safety-related risks, such as the risk of worker falls and concerns about building collapses.
Additionally, through this inspection, improvement measures were implemented focusing on areas vulnerable to strong winds and flooding, such as highlands, coastlines, and high rooftop areas, including anti-tipping measures, fall protection, and leak prevention.
Communication facilities in areas at risk of flooding were transferred to higher ground for installation, and emergency recovery equipment, such as mobile generators and portable generators, were also deployed nationwide in preparation for power outages.
KT will mobilize a comprehensive situation room that operates 24 hours and a disaster recovery response team immediately in the event of heavy rainfall and typhoons. An emergency recovery team will be dispatched to the site to quickly carry out operations.
In addition, it plans to utilize its own disaster management system to tally damage facilities nationwide in real-time and manage recovery status.
