Kakao announced on the 17th that it will introduce its digital font "Kakao Letter" for free.
Kakao explained that "Kakao Letter" is a font optimized for digital screen readability and expression methods. It consists of two types: "Kakao Large Text" and "Kakao Small Text."
"Kakao Large Text" can implement clear and attention-grabbing typography even on screens. "Kakao Small Text" is suitable for body text or captions.
Kakao also noted that it increased the size and adjusted the proportion so that meanings can be conveyed even with just initials, such as "ㅋㅋ" or "ㅇㅇ". It is explained that it changed the way initials are represented to be perceived as independent letters rather than just parts of simple characters.
The text emoticons created with special symbols have also been refined. Through the Ligature function, which automatically converts combinations of two or more symbols or characters into a single form, specific symbols can be input to change into a neat-looking emoticon that resembles an expression.
Kakao will distribute the font "Kakao Letter" for free by applying an Open Font License (OFL), allowing it to be used freely for personal and commercial purposes. The font is available for download on the Kakao corporate website and can also be used for free through cloud font services such as Sandoll Cloud and Adobe Fonts.
